I'm In The Zone Again!!!!!!!

I'm in the writing zone again. I keep asking myself if writing is my hyperfocus and sometimes I just don't have it for a while. But that's a story for another time. I'm not exactly sure what happened, but one day I was looking through files on my comptuer and reading through some of my old books. This time I chose to look through my two mysteries -- Grand Opening For Murder and Promoted and Dead. I don't know why, but for some reason, the characters just wrapped themselves around me and wouldn't let go. Now I know you're saying it doesn't make sense that characters that I've already written could do that. And yes, I know that's usually the case. They would have wrapped themselves around me when I wrote the first book. This wasn't the case, though. I liked them well enough, but many times over the last couple of years, I've contemplated just pulling them off the shelves and being done with them.

I had even started to write an NA romance and a YA drama. They were going pretty well, but man, once I finally fell in love with my mystery characters, I put those aside so fast. I had already started book 3 in the mystery series, so I pulled it out and told myself I would write a thousand words and see how it went. Well, apparently it went well because I finished the 50,00- word novel in a week. After that, I just had one idea after another for books in that world. I would write up to fifteen thousand words on some days. Most days, however, were around five thousand words. Now, only a couple of months later, I am 14,000 words into book 10 of the series. It will be the last book (at least for a while) in that world. I have another mystery series coming up about a librarian who solves murders with her best friend, who owns the coffee house next door. It will take place in a town that will closely resemble my hometown. I'll keep you all updated as to when I start writing on it. I am also planning on writing a book called "The S Word".

So, who is excited about a 10-book cozy mystery series that will be released soon?! I know I sure am. I have a lot of editing to do and will probably have it double-edited because I wrote them so fast. I would hope that they will be ready to go by mid-2026. I could use some good thoughts that, if my writing joy comes and goes because of the whole hyperfocus thing, it stays around for a few years at least. Haha
